Description
The College of New Jersey. The Psychology Department at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) seeks to hire one tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2012. A Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment.
We seek candidates who strive to be master teachers, who can sustain an active research program that complements current faculty interests and involves undergraduate students, and who are committed to professional development. Full consideration will be given to candidates with interests in ANY area of psychology, but we especially encourage applications from those who conduct research in the areas of Educational, Health, or Developmental Psychology. Candidates must provide evidence that they can maintain a successful program of research given modest space, funding (both start up and annual expenses), and participants. Candidates must also be able to teach core methodological courses (Methods and Tools, Design and Statistical Analysis, or Research Seminar); appropriate foundation courses; and develop higher-level specialized courses in their areas of expertise. The typical teaching load is three courses (usually two preps) each semester. In addition to teaching and research, faculty participate in the College community through a variety of service contributions. Candidates must provide evidence that they can contribute to the development of our intellectual community.

JAPAN-U.S. TEACHER EXCHANGE PROGRAM
 
The Japan-U.S. Teacher Exchange Program for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) will provide up to 24 U.S. K-12 teachers and administrators with the opportunity to travel to a conference in San Francisco and to Japan to learn about ESD efforts and strengthen ESD curricula in both countries. The program is fully-funded with the exception of some meals. ESD is “a vision of education that seeks to balance human and economic well-being with cultural traditions and respect for the earth’s natural resources,” according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
 
Up to 24 educators from Japan will travel to the U.S. in late April, and up to 24 educators from the U.S. will travel to Japan in June. At the end of the program in each country, all 48 educators will gather for a few days of joint collaboration.

FISHMAN PRIZE OPPORTUNITY

view/fishman-prize) for Superlative Classroom Practice is awarded annually to a select group of public school teachers who demonstrate exceptionally effective teaching with students from high-poverty communities. No more than five teachers are awarded the prize each year. Each winner is recognized with a $25,000 award and the opportunity to collaborate with other winners during an at-home summer residency that culminates in the publication of a short paper on the practice of effective teaching. The paper allows Fishman Prize winners to share their expertise with educators across the country without taking time away from their classrooms.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Demonstrated achievement in such areas: experience with Title I; knowledge of supervisory/evaluation methods; familiar with school reform initiatives; ability to demonstrate strong instructional methodology; use of technology to support instruction and special education programming; ability to communicate in a fair and equitable manner with students, parents, staff, district office, business/industry and the community at large.

Minimum Experience and Training Required:

A Master’s degree and 18 credit hours. At least five (5) years of teaching experience and three (3) years of leadership/supervisory experience or combination of experiences approved by the State Board of Education.   

Preferred Experience and Training:

Experience in the techniques of supervision and evaluation; experience utilizing student data to improve student and school performance, and mentor/assessor training. Experience working with adolescent population in urban/suburban/rural areas depending on location. 

Special Requirements or Certification:

Intermediate Administration and Supervisor Certificate (Endorsement 092).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT:

Candidates must have applied for and passed the Building Maintenance Supervisor exam and be on the current certification list.  Your name must appear on the current exam list which was promulgated from a previously administered exam.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE:

Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations; considerable knowledge of materials and methods of building repair and maintenance; considerable knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to lay out and inspect building repair and maintenance work; ability to coordinate work assignments; supervisory ability.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans building maintenance work; establishes and maintains building maintenance procedures; develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; inspects buildings and equipment to determine repair and improvement needs; receives repair requests, makes estimates of time and materials to meet requests and prioritizes according to need; maintains inventories of tools, equipment, supplies and orders or requisitions when needed, possibly requiring interaction with vendors; serves as a centralized purchasing officer for properties under his/her authority; coordinates arrangements for deliveries of materials and access to area by workers; arranges alternative plans for areas and services disrupted during construction and/or repair; may solicit bids from outside contractors and inspect contracted work; may read and interpret design blueprints and specifications for small scale renovations and remodeling; may make budget recommendations; performs related duties as required.
 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Six (6) years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of large buildings. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.Note:  For state employees the Special Experience will be interpreted at the level of Building Superintendent 2.

SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED:

College training in architecture, mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.  A physical examination may be required.

The Connecticut State Department of Education is currently recruiting for an Education Service Specialist position for the Bureau of Data Collection, Research and Evaluation. 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 

This individual will assist the State Department of Education in the analysis and reporting of information regarding Connecticut’s special education student population.  In addition, this individual will collaborate with Department colleagues to carry out a program of public awareness, resource acquisition, professional development program evaluation and accountability at all levels to improve the care and education of children with special education needs.  Further, the individual will provide technical assistance regarding the analysis and interpretation of special education data for the Bureau of Special Education, Department of Education staff as well as the educational community.

  • Develop database reporting applications and provide technical assistance to school districts for tracking the planning and placement of students with disabilities;

  • Assist with the development, dissemination and interpretation of reports required by the federally mandated system of Focused Monitoring in Special Education;

  • Assist with the organization and display of special education data via the internet including: Special Education Data Application and Collection (SEDAC), Early Childhood Outcomes, general supervision data, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) implementation;

  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief, Bureau of Data Collection, Research and Evaluation and Bureau of Special Education.

 QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
 

Experience in and knowledge of Connecticut public school practices, ability to work with database packages for analysis and reporting; knowledge of educational research methods, data analysis survey design, data interpretation and presentation; knowledge of public school systems and educational programs especially for children with disabilities; knowledge of data presentation including web-based displays; ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships; ability to prepare comprehensive written reports; and ability to deliver information effectively in oral presentations. 

Minimum Experience and Training Required:

A Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant professional experience or in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of experience and training as approved by the appointing authority. 

Preferred Experience and Training:

An advanced degree in educational psychology, educational research and evaluation, policy analysis or information management; experience working with large data sets including data manipulation and reporting; knowledge of Microsoft Access and SAS, SPSS or other analytical software packages. The Connecticut Technical High School system is a statewide system of secondary schools offering strong instruction in academics and a wide variety of trade technologies.  The administrative team is developing/implementing curriculum in both academic and trade areas and providing intensive professional development.  The scheduling model offers schools more flexibility and students more electives.  The position offers a competitive starting salary and state benefits. 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

To provide support and leadership in improving the teaching and learning process within the high school.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Assists in the planning, development and implementation of school improvement plans;
  • Responsible for the student assessment process including collecting and analyzing student data to insure student achievement over time;
  • Oversees the use of technology for instruction and other professional development activities;
  • Supervises and evaluates instructional staff on and off site;
  • Leads scheduling team to improve student instructional schedules and assists in the implementation of the computerized student information system;

  • A clear understanding of No Child Left Behind;
  • Attends or provides supervision to after-school student or staff activities;

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

Demonstrated achievement in such areas: experience with Title I; knowledge of supervisory/evaluation methods; familiar with school reform initiatives; ability to demonstrate strong instructional methodology; use of technology to support instruction and special education programming; ability to communicate in a fair and equitable manner with students, parents, staff, district office, business/industry and the community at large.

Minimum Experience and Training Required:

A Master’s degree and 18 credit hours. At least five (5) years of teaching experience and three (3) years of leadership/supervisory experience or combination of experiences approved by the State Board of Education.  

Preferred Experience and Training:

Experience in the techniques of supervision and evaluation; experience utilizing student data to improve student and school performance, and mentor/assessor training. Experience working with adolescent population in urban/suburban/rural areas depending on location.

Intermediate Administration and Supervisor Certificate (Endorsement 092).
