The Connecticut State Department of Education is currently recruiting outstanding candidates for an anticipated position of School Counseling Associate Consultant or Education Consultant in the Connecticut Technical High School System.  Job class will be based on specific position requirements and the credentials of the candidates.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provides leadership, technical assistance and consultative services to the Connecticut Technical High School System; designs, develops implements and evaluates those programs and services in the area of school counseling services programs at seventeen technical high schools and one technical center.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Continues to develop and monitor all Comprehensive School Counseling programs/services operations;
  • Designs, directs, and evaluates the school counseling services provided to students;

·        Provides coordination and support to the Career Development Lab and Student Achievement Intervention Lab (SAIL);

  • Develops, coordinates and supervises response services counseling programs needed by the district to meet student needs;
  • Develops and supervises procedures for enrollment, transfer and placement of students within the school system, as per law, regulation and/or board policy;
  • Develops and ensures the implementation of all procedures regarding the collection, maintenance and dissemination of student records;
  • Coordinates the district crisis teams and provides the necessary professional development and upgrading of team skills;
  • Provides support to school counseling departments to complete all State and Federal education reports;
  • Implements the six step accountability process for school counselors (MEASURE);
  • Continues to develop, update and implement  the Developmental Guidance lesson plans (school counselor curriculum) throughout district;
  • Continues to support school district in all domains and competencies of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program and evaluates the program;
  • Recruits, selects, hires and retains new school counseling staff;
  • Identifies and coordinates professional development activities for school-based student support service personnel to provide team building; and
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

 Knowledge of the philosophy and methods of service delivery to the assigned disciplines; knowledge of the principles and practices of education and/or services for high school population; ability to motivate students and school counseling staff; ability to effectively communicate at the appropriate level; ability to establish cooperative relationships with staff and community; and the ability to implement policies and prepare written reports.

Minimum Experience and Training Required:

Education Consultant:  An earned advanced degree and eight (8) years of professional experience or in lieu thereof an equivalent combination of experience and training as approved by the appointing authority.

 FACILITATORS WANTED

Parents Supporting Educational Excellence (Parents SEE) 

The Connecticut Center for School Change and the Connecticut Commission on Children are recruiting facilitators for Parents SEE, a 12-week leadership program for parents who are interested in children’s learning and better schools.  Parents SEE will be offered in communities across Connecticut beginning in January 2008.   

Facilitators must be:

·          knowledgeable about educational policies and practices at the school, district, state and national level;

·        comfortable with diversity;

·        committed to parent engagement in education

·        have experience facilitating learning experiences for adults;

·        willing to work collaboratively with a co-facilitator; and

·          committed to providing parents with the skills and knowledge they need to partner with school districts for educational improvement. 

 Parents SEE classes of up to 20 participants are held in the evening, 5:30 – 8:30 pm.  In addition to the 12 evening sessions, there is a full-day Saturday retreat to kick-off the course.  

 Facilitators are paid $2,700 for planning and facilitating the Parents SEE program. A 2-1/2 day training session to certify prospective facilitators will be held in mid-January 2008.

ABOUT PARENTS SEE

Parents SEE was developed by the CT Center for School Change and the Connecticut Commission on Children to provide parents with skills and understanding necessary to become leaders, change agents and active participants in education at the school, district and state levels.  Research studies show a clear linkage between student achievement and parent and family involvement.  When schools, families and community groups work together, students do better in school and have a higher probability of success. 

 

Parents SEE provides motivated parents, grandparents and guardians with practical strategies for actively engaging with other parents, with educators and with community leaders to address with confidence public policies and civic engagement to improve schools for all children.  During each of the 3-hour sessions and full day kick-off retreat, participants actively explore questions at the heart of leadership, change and education policy.  Topics covered include:  What effective schools look like; How schools function;  Education policy and practice, budgets and accountability; How and why schools change; A parent’s role in children’s learning and school improvement; How to partner effectively with schools to improve children’s learning; Why some students succeed and others do not.

Analyzes data and conduct research studies in the Connecticut Technical High School System. The Connecticut Technical High School
System includes 17 technical high schools and 1 technical education center located throughout the state. Approximately 10,000 high school
students and 3,500 adult students are enrolled.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Collect, summarize and analyze education data, detect patterns, trends and anomalies;
Determine data needs, design surveys, collect and report data;
Monitor and report data related to district policy initiatives;
Meets data reporting requirements of SDE Public School Information System (PSIS);
Analyze CTHSS data on areas such as: school leavers, retention, enrollment and admissions, and disciplinary offenses;

Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership

 
 The Department of Educational Leadership in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Hartford invites applications for a tenure-track 12-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in June 2008.
 
 Required:
 
    1. Hold an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration and Supervision, or related field, from a recognized higher education institution;
    2. Have at least 3 years of successful experience working in the public schools as a superintendent or assistant superintendent;
    3. Have experience teaching university graduate-level courses; and
    4. Demonstrate the potential and interest in the development of a research agenda related to the discipline of educational leadership.
 
 Preferred:
 
 Have direct involvement in system-wide accreditation processes, such as NEASC or NCATE; Familiarity with national standards and trends for the preparation of public school administrators.
 
 Responsibilities:
 
 Teach doctoral level courses in two or more of the following: Educational Policy, School Finance, School Law, Supervision, School Improvement and Change, particularly for students seeking state administrator certification. Supervise placement of Administrative Interns, including bi-monthly seminars, on-site visits, and development of student administrative portfolios. Supervise doctoral dissertations, and serve on doctoral examining committees. Articulate and maintain a research and publication agenda. Participate in professional and institutional service activities. Maintain collaborative relationships with public schools and districts in the region.

Radiologic Technology Program Director
 
 The University of Hartford invites applications to join our faculty as the Program Director for the Radiologic Technology Program to begin in July 2008.
 
 The program in Radiologic Technology offers a Bachelor of Science degree leading to entry-level certification in Radiography as well as additional certification programs in CT and MRI.
 
 Responsibilities: Provide effective and responsive classroom instruction; recruit and advise a diverse student population; conduct scholarly or community outreach activities; curriculum development; administration of the program; and participate in departmental, collegiate and university activities.  The Department of Nursing at the University of Hartford invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor commencing with the academic year 2008-2009. The Department of Nursing offers RN to BSN and MSN programs. Responsibilities include teaching, scholarship and service. Candidates should have knowledge of core educational principles and the ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their area of expertise in relation to the Departments specialty areas: Community/Public Health and/or Education and/or Leadership/Management.
 
 Applicants should have recent teaching experience. Applicants should hold appropriate doctoral degree (PhD, D.N.Sc., Ed.D.) or anticipate completion of the doctorate prior to September 2008. A master's degree in nursing is required. A license to practice nursing in the state of Connecticut or eligibility is also mandatory for employment.  Department of Physical Therapy

 Assistant Professor in Physical Therapy 
 
 The University of Hartford , College of Education , Nursing, and Health Professions, Department of Physical Therapy, seeks an Assistant Professor in Physical Therapy. This is a 10-month, tenure-track position, with primary specialization in motor control/motor learning. Preferred secondary areas of interest include neurorehabilitation, statistics, biomechanics, or exercise physiology. Start date is August 2008. Qualifications include completion of an academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, ScD) by date of hire and expertise in motor control and motor learning. Other preferred qualities include demonstration of success in working with diverse populations of
 students and clients, previous teaching experience, publications in appropriate journals, and capability of establishing a research agenda with potential to attract external funding. Job responsibilities will include teaching motor control, motor learning and research methodology, mentoring student research, engaging in independent scholarly activity, collaborating with current faculty in physical therapy and biomedical engineering, student advising, professional service, and curriculum development.
 
 The University of Hartford Physical Therapy Department has implemented a DPT degree program with both freshman and post-baccalaureate entry into the curriculum.
 
 Co-teaching and collaborative research are common expectations for members of the faculty. Available for use are three research laboratories containing an un-weighting treadmill gait system, a pressure mapping system, and a real-time data acquisition and analysis system that provides monitoring of 3D motion analysis (passive video and real-time active marker), 8 channels of EMG, and force platforms, with simultaneous control of external signaling (e.g., sound, light) to permit feedback experimentation on human posture, balance, gait and other activities. Applicants who are not physical therapists will be considered. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
